About the Position

We are looking for an experienced VP Finance to oversee the day-to-day finance and operations of our company and support the growth of our business. Reporting to the CEO, you will be a true finance business partner to the executive team and provide detailed financials on projects and provide overall direction and leadership related to transactions within finances, investments, budgeting, business planning, risk management and financial policy. You will also be responsible for setting standards for operations; developing, articulating and communicating goals; and attaining financial and operational goals. The ideal candidate has previously worked as a controller and has a proven track record of driving impact through metrics and analytics, operational improvement, and strategic insight. In addition, the individual must be technologically savvy since all accounting systems are being migrated into the cloud and we operate in a paperless office.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Finance and Accounting

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting functions of the Company across our international subsidiaries including banking relationships, cash flows, revenue recognition and reporting, credit and collections, payroll, accounts payable activities, approval of expense reports, tax and regulatory
  • Review and approve ledger entries in the accounting systems
  • Coordinate and prepare month-end consolidated financial statements, quarterly Board of Directors report, and year-end consolidated financial statements including full note disclosures according to ASPE
  • Liaise with our offshore management consultants and prepare year-end unconsolidated financial reporting for our subsidiaries as per local requirements
  • Review, design and enforce internal controls
  • Implementation of an automated work-order and invoicing system
  • Manage team currently consisting of two senior accountants and a financial reporting analyst

 

Operations

  • Oversee customer support team, processes, and organize them to enhance customer satisfaction
  • Increase revenue and profitability by developing budget forecasts and operation plans, assessing and analyzing operation capabilities, and ensure adherence to budget
  • Build our quarterly book with verbiage and comparison
  • Implement an invoice and work order system like SAP but NOT SAP
  • Keep financials information reports updated in Google Spreadsheets
  • Expert at excel, mySQL not essential but must be willing to learn
  • Run Credit reports on accounts, follow up on account receivables, implement a collection process
  • Develop meaningful key performance indicators (KPIs) and other metrics to monitor, manage, and improve operations and overall company performance on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements.
  • Monitor project development to ensure they are following the agreed scope, budget, and timelines
  • Liaise with the senior management team to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals. Align and execute operational plans with overall strategic plans
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to the management team in attaining financial and operational goals
  • Build strong positive relationships with all employees while implementing an appropriate culture of accountability
  • Evaluate and improve employee related processes and procedures, including organizational structure, work rules, policies, job descriptions, responsibilities, training, etc. with intentions to both optimizing productivity and enhancing employee relations
  • Attract, develop, and retain high performing employees including internal succession planning and build a healthy internal and external talent pipeline

 

About You

  • University degree with a preference for an MBA or related Master’s program
  • CPA Designation
  • Worked in a startup and has an entrepreneurship mindset
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a strategy or operations role
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working through increasingly senior accounting positions including Controller
  • High proficiency using Quickbooks Enterprise and/or QBO
  • Experience with Expensify and other cloud accounting apps
  • Excellent business acumen and strategic orientation
  • Exceptional verbal and written communicator
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experienced in leading change within a fast-paced high growth environment
  • Build charts, pivot chard and be an EXCEL superstar
  • Think outside the box, be dedicated and understand the business
  • Tech-savvy, can easily adopt new technologies and concepts
  • Able to collaborate with a broad range of individuals
  • Highly analytical and able to use data metrics to drive the business forward
  • Strong people management and project management skills with the ability to build, coach, inspire and engage a high-performing team
  • Not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to get things done
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry an asset
